Stories Untold | Dr J Msimango-Galawe

Dr Jabulile Msimango-Galawe graduated from the University of the Free State with a Master’s degree in Stats and Maths in the early 2000s. She then ‘went’ the corporate route after a couple of years as a senior employee. She then resigned to start a business. The business collapsed in 2011 and she had no option but to shut it down and retrench her employees. A decision that was hard for her. She then went the corporate route again where she had no option but to start from the ground and built herself up. This is because most corporate companies were uncomfortable with employing a person who has been ‘off the market’ for 6 years. During this time, she was studying toward her PhD in Entrepreneurship … and she graduated from Wits in 2017. Sometime this year she wrote a book in which she deviates from the conventional writing of a ‘business manual’…and opted to write it as if she is writing a novel…the usual chapters are referred to as letters. Her profile is about her letting the viewers in on the challenges life throw at us sometimes. This is a celebratory episode in which we hear of a story about a woman starting from scratch and refusing to be defined by failure. In her own words, failure is not personal and greatness is for each one of us. From being unemployed and ‘bankrupt’ to being an award winner as an executive and business coach/ mentor, senior lecturer at Wits Business School, Research supervisor, and author to mention but a few of her achievements to date.
